While conducting larceny patrol on the Hutchinson River Parkway Corridor at approximately 2 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7, an officer from the Scarsdale Police Department spotted a suspicious man walking in a hoodie on Weaver Street with a backpack. He was seen “acting nervously, constantly checking his surroundings and his cellphone.”

Police said that due to the hour, and the suspect being in the vicinity of two reported burglaries, the officer wanted to speak with the suspect.

The man - later identified as White Plains resident Dwayne Wilkinson - kept attempting to walk away and failed to keep his story straight when asked where he was coming and going. Wilkinson eventually dropped the backpack and began to walk away, prompting the officer to stop him.

“Due to the subjects changing his story and his erratic behavior, I opened the backpack and observed a laptop and two pairs of glasses,” the officer said. “I opened the lid to the laptop and observed a picture of an older white female and male with (a name) on it.”

According to police, investigators contacted the owner of the laptop, who said he had left it in a backpack in his car, which was parked on Varian Lane. At that time, Wilkinson was placed under arrest for criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny. Further investigation found that Wilkinson was in possession of a large amount of loose change, a collector’s coin, a phone charger, bracelet, receipts and $110 cash.

A check of Wilkinson’s history found that he had been arrested seven times in New York and several times in Connecticut. His previous arrests include larcenies, burglaries, robbery, weapons and credit card offenses.

Following his arraignment in Scarsdale Village Court, Wilkinson was remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $2,5000 cash bail. No return court date has been announced.
